Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that it will verify voting records with alleged inconsistencies

Quito, February 21 (RHC)-- Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) has announced that it will verify the voting records with alleged inconsistencies, corresponding to the recent general elections held earlier this month.

The decision was adopted by a majority in an ordinary session of the CNE plenary, after hearing a technical report on new developments found in the Computerized System of Scrutiny and Results (SIER).

According to the report, the problems to be corrected would be in 18 electoral records in the provinces of Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Cañar, Morona Santiago (one in each), Los Ríos (two) and Imbabura (12).

The documents to be reviewed present irregularities detected by the SIER system itself and some presented by the Pachakutik party, whose presidential candidate Yaku Perez denounced since the beginning of the vote count a possible fraud to affect the votes in his favor.

The claim of Perez was formalized before the Attorney General's Office, after the NEC published a quick count that placed him in second place in the presidential race, but later he moved to third place, surpassed by Guillermo Lasso, of the center-right movement CREO.

The first place in the struggle to lead the destiny of the country was won, without discussion, by Andres Arauz, representative of the progressive coalition Union for Hope, who reached 32.72 percent of the total votes, while Lasso garnered 19.74 percent and Perez 19.38.

The accusations of fraud issued by the candidate of the indigenous peoples and nationalities led several organizations of these sectors to carry out a national march which has been advancing since February 18 on a route from Loja to Quito, where they expect to arrive on Tuesday.
