Nicaraguan president calls on people to vote in November

Managua, July 26 (RHC)-- Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, in the framework of the second day of citizen verification for the general elections next November, recalled that thanks to the Sandinista Revolution, today the country celebrates free electoral processes.

"As a result of our first Constitution, the first free elections in the history of Nicaragua were held with the triumph of the Revolution, despite the aggressiveness of the empire.  The first elections of November 1984 were won by the people with the Sandinista National Liberation Front," said President Ortega.

The Nicaraguan leader also recalled that the first Constitution passed in the nation dignified fundamental rights.  "We established principles such as the right of the people to elect their authorities without foreign interference, as well as the principle of mixed economy," he added.

"I never heard my parents had participated in elections, there were simply no elections because Nicaragua was occupied by the Yankees (...) from September 15, 1821 to July 19, 1979.   Nicaragua was a nation that was not independent, it was subject to the Yankees, the country was one of the first in the region to be invaded by the Yankees," noted President Daniel Ortega.

In the framework of the day, President Ortega congratulated the citizens who continue to participate in the process ahead of the November elections.  He said: "The verification is very important so that young people from 16 years old onwards, know where we should vote next November, it is God willing and not when the empire wants", he added.

"We have seen yesterday how thousands of Nicaraguans went out, in the middle of the rain, to register their cédula.  In a sovereign exercise, where these elections are one more battle for our second independence, which will be the really free one", said the head of state.

Alluding to the attacks of a communicational and economic nature by the United States (U.S.), President Ortega emphasized that Washington never respects the sovereign processes of the peoples.   "For them, elections are worth when their wimps win, but if they lose the election it is worthless and they do everything possible to destabilize the country, as they have done with Cuba, Bolivia, Bolivia, Brazil", he said.

"The empire is the biggest terrorist and criminal on the planet.  There is not a single country that has not suffered the aggressions of Yankee imperialism (...).  In the face of the empire there is no room for negotiation and understanding. Those who have illusions are forgetting their own history", said the Nicaraguan president.

Regarding the pretensions of former U.S. presidents to believe they are superior to other nations, during his speech Daniel Ortega reminded them of their defeats throughout the world.  "Sandino taught them that they were not superman.  The same in Vietnam and Cuba.  Thye also believed they were superman and the people defeated them.  In Venezuela, they have believed they were superman with their crimes and the people of Chavez and Maduro have defeated them."
