Quito, August 21 (RHC)-- The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) has sent a high-level commission to the Carondelet Palace to talk with President Guillermo Lasso.

The objective of the meeting was to dialogue with the Ecuadorian president to coordinate the date, methodology of the issues to be addressed and the number of delegates who will be present in a debate that have requested this organization representing indigenous nationalities.

In addition to the leaders of the Conaie, representatives of the social organizations that make up the Parliament of the Peoples and Social Organizations of Ecuador took part in the meeting.

"We have put our word and willingness to work to obtain a dialogue with concrete results," said Conaie in a statement signed by its president Leonidas Iza Salazar before the meeting.

In addition, they insisted on unity among peoples, nationalities and social sectors "so that the dialogue process has results", as there are urgent economic issues to be resolved that have been raised by the various popular social organizations in the country.

On August 18, more than 100 organizations and social sectors of Ecuador analyzed the economic and political situation in the first meeting of the People's Parliament. In the conclave it was agreed that the dialogue table with the Government should resolve urgent economic issues.

The Ministry of Government had sent a letter inviting Conaie to hold a meeting this Friday, August 20 in Carondelet. However, the indigenous people informed that they would only accept the invitation to dialogue if it was held next August 24 and not on the date proposed by the Government.

Lasso had announced to the National Assembly that from next Monday (August 23) to Wednesday (August 25) he would be in a bilateral meeting with his Mexican counterpart, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and businessmen of that country, so it would be impossible to receive the social leaders on the date requested.
