The Deputy Minister of Communications of Bolivia Gabriela Alcón

La Paz, October 27 (RHC)-- The Deputy Minister of Communications of Bolivia, Gabriela Alcón, said that the pluri-national meeting convened by President Luis Arce, scheduled for October 28 in Cochabamba, is the scenario to define the date of the Population and Housing Census.

The Bolivian Deputy Minister recalled that the Bolivian Government has proposed a new regulation without a date so that it can be determined through the work of technical tables.   President Luis Arce called on various sectors of the country to join the meeting for a consensus census.

The official emphasized that "there is the table, there is the scenario and let's hope that they participate because what the Government has proposed is a new regulation without a date so that it can be determined through the work of technical tables headed by the INE (National Statistics Institute), universities and also international organizations."

"What could be more democratic, participative and consensual than having the elected authorities of the whole national territory, because the population and housing census is an issue that interests all Bolivians," highlighted Alcón.

The Deputy-Minister recalled that governors, mayors, authorities of the native indigenous and peasant autonomies, the university system, among others, were invited to participate in the meeting.  She also explained that in the dialogue with the civic groups of the department of Santa Cruz, the Government proposed to elaborate a decree to open the date of the census and that a technical study would define the date of its realization, either in 2023 or 2024.

However, the committee that promoted the indefinite strike, supported by Governor Fernando Camacho, broke the dialogue by trying to impose its proposal for the census to be in 2023, without having explained the technical way for it to be carried out.

The Bolivian president called on the eve of the plurinational meeting for a consensus census in Cochabamba "reaffirming our democratic vocation in search of solutions."

The Bolivian Government proposed to carry out the national census in April 2024 and that the distribution of resources with the first results of the census process be in October of the same year, being one month different from what was proposed by the Santa Cruz committee.
