United Nations, March 23 (RHC)-- The Arab Group at the UN has declared its full support for the latest UNSC resolution on Gaza, which was sponsored by the 10 elected members of the council.

The draft document demands “an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan respected by all parties leading to a permanent sustainable ceasefire,” according to a statement by the Arab Group.

“In this Holy Month of Ramadan, the most sacred month in Islam, the Arab Group appeals to all members of the Security Council to act with unit and urgency to hold the bloodshed, preserve human lives and avert further human suffering and destruction. It is long past time for a ceasefire,” the group said.

The UNSC is set to vote on the latest text on Saturday.  It comes after Russia and China vetoed a draft resolution proposed by the United States, saying the document was “a effective green light for Israel to mount a military operation in Rafah,” where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering.
