Guatemalan President Promises New Houses for Mudslide Victims

Guatemala City, October 13 (RHC)-- Guatemalan President Alejandro Maldonado has promised to resolve housing problems caused by the recent mudslide that destroyed a small village called El Cambray Segundo, located at the capital municipality of Santa Catarina de Pinula.

During a visit to shelters where survivors of the tragedy are staying, the president said that the state project includes the construction of a town named Familia Querida that will have around 200 houses for the mudside victims.

The Guatemalan head of state also said that the land where the housing will be built became state property after being seized from organized crime.

Previously, Maldonado established the lines and directions for the attention to the family’s in that location, where the mudslide caused the deaths of over 270 people with more than 300 missing.
