Havana, February 11 (RHC)-- More than 2,700 delegates and guests from 42 countries are attending University 2004 here in Havana.

The Congress includes panels and plenary sessions focusing on the role of the universities in Latin America, the region with the greatest number of participants. The event also pays tribute to Bolivarian leader Hugo Chavez, whose government launched projects in the education and health sectors, which are now well underway in that nation with the support of Cuba.

Running parallel to the University 2004 congress is the 7th Forum on Economy and Financing of Higher Education.
