Washington, September 1 (RHC)-- The Democratic Socialist Organization of America (DSA) expressed its solidarity with the people of Cuba and its categorical opposition to the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island.

DSA, which identifies itself as the largest socialist organization in the United States, condemned that Washington's policies towards the Caribbean country have had a devastating effect on the Cuban people and have hindered the development of solidarity ties between the citizens of both countries.

In a statement released this week, the group said it opposes U.S. imperialism and economic sanctions or other actions that would undermine the self-determination of the Cuban people.

“We also oppose the continued existence of the U.S. Naval Base at Guantánamo Bay," the statement said on the military enclave maintained by Washington in eastern Cuba against the will of the government and people of the island.

According to the document, the group will work with other Cuba solidarity to achieve its objective of defending the sovereignty of the largest of the Antilles, subjected to the siege imposed by the United States almost 60 years ago.
