"Any decoration in the USA on the Bay of Pigs is a prize for defeat. Whoever honors the president in this way, calls him a failure," said Rodriguez on Twitter, alluding to Trump's pride in the award, which represents the failed mercenary invasion of the island in April 1961.

It took 66 hours to the Cuban Revolutionary Forces to defeat the CIA-backed invaders.

Known as the first great defeat of imperialism in Latin America, the invasion of Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs, for the West) was preceded by simultaneous bombings of three Cuban military airbases on April 15, 1961.

On Sunday, the president boasted that he had received the Cuban mercenaries' prize and used it to attack his Democratic rival Joe Biden in Florida's battleground state.
