Cyclonic alarm decreed for western Cuba

Havana, August 27 (RHC)'' The National Civil Defense General Staff decreed the cyclonic alarm phase for the western provinces of Cuba and the Isle of Youth, in anticipation of the imminent passage of tropical storm Ida.

According to the agency, the measure takes effect as of 9 am Friday for the territories of Havana, Mayabeque, Artemisa, and Pinar del Río. At the same time, from Matanzas to Sancti Spíritus, the informative phase continues.

The note also specifies that Ida will continue to gain in organization and strength and maintain a similar course and speed of translation.

Ida is expected to approach the west of Cuba with more force.

Likewise, storm surges are expected on the coast from Pinar del Río to Cienfuegos, and moderate coastal flooding from Mayabeque to the westernmost province of Cuba and Isla de la Juventud.

It also reports an increase in the probability of rain.

In this regard, the National General Staff advised the population to keep informed through official websites and the media and comply with the instructions given by local authorities.
