President of the Cuban Parliament receives delegation of Eurodeputies

Havana, February 2 (RHC)-- The president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, received at the headquarters of the Cuban legislature a delegation of Euro deputies belonging to the European Left Party.

The delegation began an official visit to the island this Monday.  "It is an honor for us to receive them and we welcome them," said the president of the Council of State.  Lazo Hernández highlighted the value of the systematic denunciation they make from their seats, of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba and as well as the aggressiveness of the imperial anti-Cuban policy.

"These exchanges provide an opportunity to learn more about the values of Cuban democracy, founded on the principles of the exercise of power in the hands of the people," said the Cuban leader.

The visitors toured the National Capitol, headquarters of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba and exchanged with other representatives of the highest legislative body of the Republic of Cuba.

Leading the group of senators was German MEP Martin Schiderwan, co-president of the left-wing group of the European Parliament, who remarked the work objectives shared with the Cuban government, in pursuit of achieving a model of democratic socialism.  Schiderwan denounced the falsehood of Western narratives that argue that there is no popular participation in Cuba, and seek to hinder cooperation between the European Union and the largest Antillean island.

"The defense to Cuba and its socialist project can only be established on the basis of a strengthened political dialogue within all possible spaces," he added.  The group, made up of nine deputies accompanied by other officials from Spain, Greece, Portugal and France as main nationalities, brings together the most progressive wing of the European instance.
