Matanzas, Cuba, Jun 1 (RHC)-- The 22nd World Congress of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) is underway in the western Cuban province of Matanzas. It focuses on the role of language professionals in constructing culture and peace.

The 3-day event brings together 400 participants and 85 presentations by representatives from 50 countries in the first meeting of its kind to be held in a Latin American country.

According to the event's program, the event seeks to highlight the role played by language professionals in ensuring understanding among nations, guaranteeing cultural diversity, and protecting human rights.

Translators and interpreters, users of language services, government departments, and other interested parties are on hand to establish professional relationships and exchange ideas on the latest advances in this area.

Cuba is represented by the Cuban Association of Translators and Interpreters. This organization has won three world prizes awarded by the world governing body and a Pan-Hispanic award conferred by the Latin Union.
