Havana, June 3 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party,  Roberto Morales, went to the National Civil Defense General Staff headquarters Friday afternoon to receive detailed information on the impact of the rains in the western region.

The Prime Minister also attended a meeting of the Temporary Working Group in Havana to evaluate the situation and determine actions to preserve human life and material resources.

The meeting also warned that the rain could have a greater impact and decided to prioritize the evacuation of the residents of El Fanguito affected by the swelling of the Almendares River, the largest ever in a weather situation like this one.

In the meeting, it was stated that during the morning, more than 100 millimeters (4 inches) of rain had fallen in Havana and that this amount could reach between 300 and 400 millimeters during the rest of the day and the dawn of Saturday.

Reportedly, one person died and one was injured in the municipality of Centro Habana.

The newspaper Tribuna de la Habana reported that there were 40  collapsed houses, 398 evacuees, and 1,826 people sheltered by relatives or friends.

The rains have also affected electric lines, leaving some 50 thousand clients without electricity.
