Havana, July 11 (RHC)-- Cuban Culture Minister Alpidio Alonso reffered Monday to the historical symbolism of the friendship between the Cuban and U.S. peoples, as evidence of the possibility of another type of bilateral link.

According to the holder, the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) always expressed his admiration, solidarity and appreciation to the representatives of the U.S. society, an aspect also ratified by President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

From the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in Havana, the official mentioned the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade and described the attitude of the current administration of Joseph Biden as hypocritical and abusive.

In his opinion, the president, elected in November 2020, failed to comply with some promises issued before his arrival at the White House, "since, after his installation in the Oval Office, he would return to the policies adopted by his predecessor, Donald Trump", he assured.

Alonso revealed the extraordinary values, growth and sensitivity that emanate from the work of Nicolás Guillén, in the context of the celebrations for the 120th anniversary of his birth and the commemoration of his friendship with the American novelist Langston Hughes.

"Poetry is the pinnacle of the spirituality of peoples, an authentic way of expressing feelings, and in the bridges of love between Cuba and the United States, this literary manifestation can contribute greatly to the understanding of common concerns and longings," said Alonso.

The US general public knows nothing about Cuba, and gets all its disinformation about the island from the US media which only parrots the US government's propaganda. Most US citizens don't even know that the US military has a base in Cuba, or that their government's blockade has been causing suffering in Cuba for many decades. I am certain that if US citizens had the chance to learn first-hand about Cuba, that their ideas about Cuba would change radically. However, the US government does everything in its power to prevent US citizens from obtaining such knowledge about their close neighbor, and with the current inflation crisis in the US, very few US citizens could afford to visit Cuba even if they were able to circumvent their government's restrictions on travel to the island.
