Tehran, Nov 6 (RHC) The Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter demanded that the US government put an immediate and unconditional end to the blockade against Cuba, diplomatic sources informed Sunday.

According to a report from the Cuban embassy in Tehran, in the final declaration of the meeting held in this capital, the member states expressed their unwavering solidarity with the people and authorities of that Caribbean country.

The final text stresses that the Caribbean nation has heroically endured the negative impact of Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade for more than 60 years, which hinders its full economic and social development.

The declaration signed by the 19 countries that make up the initiative also welcomes the resolution approved by the United Nations General Assembly on November 3, by 185 votes in favor and which demands, for the 30th consecutive time, the need to put an end to this genocidal policy unilaterally imposed by the White House against Havana.

The meeting was held the day before in Tehran with the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hosein Amir Abdolahian, and the deputy ministers, ambassadors, special representatives, and advisors of the invited States.

The Group was formed in 2021 to preserve, update and defend the credibility of the United Nations Charter.

The Cuban delegation to the event was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodríguez; it was also made up of Ambassador Alberto González and Foreign Ministry official Pablo Berti. (Source: PL)
