The presidential tour demonstrates support for Cuba, says Díaz-Canel

Havana, Nov 27 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed that the recent tour of Algeria, Turkey, Russia, and China shows support for the island, sympathy for its problems, and willingness to support it.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, after exercising his right to vote in the municipal elections, the president, who had just arrived in the country, described the trip as necessary and timely since it allowed face-to-face discussions on issues of great relevance for mutual relations.

Díaz-Canel said he was satisfied and happy, especially for how he was received and the conversations held with the presidents, which were not only state meetings but friendly meetings.

In particular, he pointed out that the dialogue with the presidents of Algeria and Turkey, whom he did not know personally, was very friendly, almost like people who have known each other for a long time, because they showed total understanding, are aware of our country´s situation and recognize its role in the international arena.

"That gives a lot of strength, security, and encouragement. Cuba has earned the right to be defended by others in the world because of the dignity with which we face adversities and that has to do with our creative resistance, which is not only to resist but to grow and advance based on our talent and potential," he said.

The Head of State explained that the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic had prevented direct contact with international leaders, despite telephone calls and participation in virtual events.

These circumstances marked the need for the visits, in which the president noted a high sensitivity to the problems faced by the Caribbean nation, as part of the tightening of the U.S. economic blockade and the international crisis.

"Everyone recognizes the heroic resistance of the Cuban people", they admire what we have done, he said, and added that he felt great pride for that recognition.

We found great respect for how a small country, blocked and without resources, gave a more effective response than many other countries to Covid-19, thanks to the contribution of its scientists and the work of the health system, he added.

This was later reflected in the interest of exchange and cooperation, and in developing fundamental projects with the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry, he said.

He also highlighted the meetings with the friendship associations with Cuba, in the countries where they were held, during which they received much affection. (Source: PL)
