University Marta Abreu ratifies commitment to Cuba's development

Central University Marta Abreu of Las Villas

Havana, Dec 1 (RHC) Students and professors of the Central University Marta Abreu of Las Villas (UCLV) ratified the decision to continue contributing, from science and innovation to Cuba's development.

The website of the Presidency of the country reports on Thursday that this commitment was announced during the solemn ceremony held the day before, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the institution, presided over by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The dignitary paid tribute to his teacher and friend, José Luis García Cuevas, whose ashes rest on the university campus, and then toured the Innovation Fair that gathers the main achievements of the House of Studies, where he exchanged with several of its scientists.

UCLV has graduated 113,876 professionals, of which 1,966 were young people from 91 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, informed Dr. Osana Molerio, rector of the institution.

It has also obtained numerous awards. Among them, 57 awards from the Academy of Sciences and eight awards for Technological Innovation, linked to strategic programs of the Revolution, such as food production, informatics, automation, energy saving, and the production of construction materials, among others.

During the activity, Dr. José Ramón Saborido Loidi, Minister of Higher Education, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Technical Sciences, in recognition of his important contribution to the training of professionals in Cuba and his leading role in the implementation of the nation's scientific policy, as his main merits (Source: ACN).
