Havana, Dec 29 (RHC) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa exchanged on Thursday in Brazil with local authorities, following his arrival in that country to participate in the inauguration of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Through Twitter, Valdés Mesa informed this morning that he held a meeting with Senator Jean-Paul Prates, in which they talked about the future of the energy industry and the perspective of renewable energies.

During the day, he also met with Congressman Washington Quaquá and the president of the Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation of the municipality of Maricá, Celso Pansera, to discuss the biopharmaceutical industry, the development of tourism, and cultural exchange.

The Cuban vice-president described as fruitful his exchange with Carlos Gabas, executive secretary of the Northeast Consortium, in which they discussed the collaboration potential of the Antillean nation with the nine states of that region, in food production, energy, tourism, and culture.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Valdés Mesa will also meet with representatives of political parties, social movements, businessmen and organizations in solidarity with the Antillean nation.

On January 1, 2023, he will participate in the inauguration ceremony of Lula da Silva. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro; the director of South America of that Ministry, Carlos de Céspedes Piedra; and the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba in Brazil, Adolfo Curbelo Castellanos are part of the delegation.

Lula da Silva won the presidency in October, in the second electoral round, with 50.90 percent of the valid votes, against the far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro, who was seeking re-election.

Upon learning the results of the elections, the president-elect stated that he was returning to power (two decades after his first victory) to rule a country in a very difficult situation, but ratified his faith that with the help of the people, a way out will be found to return to a democratic way of life.
