The meeting of the Chilean left is a show of solidarity with Cuba and its Revolution.

Havana, Jan 15 (RHC) The Fiesta de Los Abrazos, which is being held this Sunday in Santiago de Chile, supports Cuba's struggle against the U.S. blockade and expresses solidarity with the people of Brazil and its President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.

Thousands of people come this weekend to O'Higgins Park to participate in the annual meeting organized by the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh), suspended for three years due to the social outbreak and the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This is a tradition that emerged in 1988, even in times of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship, when militants were persecuted and met again to embrace each other, regain strength and continue fighting," said Mercedes Vicente, Cuban ambassador to the southern nation.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the diplomat highlighted the solidarity towards her country in this event, and the rejection of the president of the PCCh, Guillermo Tellier, to the economic, commercial, and financial siege imposed by Washington for more than 60 years against the largest island of the Antilles.

The party leader also condemned the recent assault on the headquarters of the three powers in Brazil and assured that this coup attempt is based on the articulation of the extreme continental right wing, which is a threat to all, he said.

In the meeting of reflection for the left, other topics are being debated such as the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of the international crisis in the region, the coming to power of progressive governments in Latin America, and the integration processes. (Source: Prensa Latina)
