Havana, Apr 13 (RHC) - Four municipalities in the Cuban province of Camagüey will benefit from environmental, social, renewable energy and food based on sustainable practices through a new international project presented in Havana today.

The initiative, called Prolaif, according to its managers will serve to contribute to the sustainable development of the agri-food sphere, with the aim of advancing towards a greener future in the central-eastern region of the island.

Together with the provincial capital of Camagüey, the project will have the towns of Guáimaro, Jimaguayú and Sibanicú as centers.

The financing comes from a donation from the European Union (EU) of 6.2 million euros to be executed by the French Development Agency (AFD). To this amount are added 1.3 million of the same currency for technical assistance from the Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research for Development (Cirad).

In general terms, it will favor science and innovation towards the sustainability of the agri-food sector, in harmony with the environment through agroecology, agro-silvopastoral knowledge and technological improvements in agribusiness.

In addition, this seeks to reduce energy consumption, limit contamination, protect the genetic progress of herds, as well as help the local innovation system. (Source: Prensa Latina)
