The Association of Cubans Resident in Venezuela (Accreven) highlighted in Caracas the Barrio Adentro Mission as one of the best examples of Latin American integration

Havana, April 17 (RHC) - The Association of Cubans Resident in Venezuela (Accreven) highlighted in Caracas the Barrio Adentro Mission as one of the best examples of Latin American integration.

In a statement regarding the 20th anniversary of this social program, promoted by the commanders Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) and Fidel Castro (1926-2016), the association stressed that it not only served in the field of health, but also to build consensus.

What in its beginnings was aimed at caring for those most in need on the outskirts of the Bolivarian capital, is today part of a national health system, based on the principles of primary care and the development of prevention and promotion programs for the care of people, families and communities.

The text recognized that the Barrio Adentro Mission, which emerged on April 16, 2003, from an initiative in the Libertador municipality, in Caracas, quickly spread throughout the national territory.

In the brigades, in which thousands of Cuban health collaborators are organized, there are also hundreds of representatives of the Accreven.

The Association conveyed a fraternal greeting to all those who have contributed in these 20 years to the magnification of this noble and beautiful idea, urging them not to stop and to continue in the arduous battle to make the thought of Commander Hugo Chávez come true.

Official data indicated that more than 153,600 Cuban health workers provided services as part of the Barrio Adentro Mission. The Venezuelan population received the benefit of 1,296,915,510 medical consultations and saved the lives of more than 1,490,000 people, thanks to the care provided by Cuban doctors.
