Havana, May 6 (RHC) -- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez today expressed his solidarity and condolences to the Democratic Republic of Congo in view of the loss of human lives and material damages caused by the floods registered in that country.

The head of Cuban diplomacy conveyed on Twitter his deepest condolences to the people and government of the African nation, as well as to the families and relatives of the victims.

At least 176 people have died as a result of flash floods in a territory of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to government sources.

Rainfall in the territory of Kalehe, in the province of South Kivu, caused rivers to overflow on Thursday, flooding the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi.

The provincial governor, Théo Ngwabidje Kasi, revealed that dozens of people are still missing, while an estimated 75 percent of the houses in Nyamukubi were destroyed by the floods along with school buildings and a health center.
