India appreciates Cuba's work at the head of G77 and success of the Summit

Havana, Sep 23 (RHC) Indian diplomat Sanjay Verma highlighted in the United Nations today the successful conclusion of the G77 Summit in Havana, and appreciated Cuba for its efforts to host the Summit.

At the annual ministerial meeting of the G77, based at the United Nations, the secretary for the West of the Indian Foreign Ministry described as important the meeting that concluded a busy week with events such as the Sustainable Development Goals summits and the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development.

Verma highlighted the coincidence of the debates and results at the G77 meeting with India's initiatives during its presidency of the G20.

He highlighted as an innovative achievement of his country at the head of the economic grouping the inclusion of the African Union in the category of permanent member, which means the presence of a representative of the voice of the Global South within the bloc.

He added that the holding of the Voice of the Global South Summit in January this year and the adoption of an appreciable number of agreements based on developing nations, showed the direction of the Indian presidency of the G20 towards the needs of those States.

Verma mentioned among these aspects the agreement related to the World Development Banks, to make them more effective, better in their operating models, their response capacity and accessibility, with a view to increasing their financing capacity.

He stated that there is greater momentum in the G20 for increasing investment and climate financing.

He noted that developed countries are expected to meet the climate finance target of $100 billion a year, for the first time, in 2023. The Indian diplomat said that the fulfillment of the New Collective Quantified Objective is scheduled for the end of 2024, which he described as ambitious, transparent and traceable.

On the other hand, he referred to the Global Initiative on Digital Health, launched in Gandhinagar last month, whose objective is to develop a network managed by the World Health Organization.

Verma also highlighted the holding of the first World Summit on Traditional Medicine, with emphasis on the potential role of this evidence-based discipline and its integration into health services.

He pointed out that in terms of energy, the G20 High Level Voluntary Principles will help boost the production, use and global trade of hydrogen produced from zero and low emissions technologies. He specified that a Green Hydrogen Innovation Center will be created in the International Solar Alliance.

Furthermore, he said, the Global Biofuels Alliance will facilitate the global adoption of biofuels through technological advances, the intensification of the use of these organic products and the establishment of strong standards and certifications. (Source: PL)
