Victims in accident of Cuban migrants are identified in Mexico

Havana, Oct 2 (RHC) The identity of six of the 10 Cubans who lost their lives in a car accident in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, was confirmed today, diplomatic sources of the Caribbean nation reported.

The Cuban embassy in Mexico indicated on its account on the social network X that it was possible to carry out the recognition in coordination with Mexican authorities.

The Cuban diplomatic mission maintains direct communication with the relatives of those involved in the accident for the required consular attention, and coordinates with Mexican authorities and institutions to accompany the exercise of the family's will regarding the bodies of the Cuban citizens who died in the accident.

The embassy also provided consular assistance to two minors who were transferred to specialized hospitals.

According to press reports, the incident occurred the day before when the truck in which some 27 people of Cuban nationality were being transported overturned on the Pijijiapan-Tonalá coastal highway, in the state of Chiapas.

This is the second accident in Chiapas since the previous week. On September 28, two migrants lost their lives and 38 were injured in the rollover of a truck in the municipality of Mezcalapa.

Cuba advocates for regular, orderly and safe migration, and reiterates the danger and life-threatening conditions that illegal departures represent. (Source: PL)
