Cuba and Sri Lanka review matters of bilateral interest

Havana, Oct 3 (RHC) The Cuban ambassador, Andrés Marcelo González, and the deputy secretary of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, Yasoja Gunasekara reviewed this Tuesday, among other matters, the recent visit to Cuba of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The issues of bilateral interest were discussed in a courtesy visit by the Cuban diplomat accredited to Colombo to the person in charge of Western Hemisphere affairs of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting addressed, among other aspects, Wickremesinghe's visit to Cuba to attend the Summit of the Group of 77 and China in Havana in last September.

On that occasion, the Sri Lankan president was received by his counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel, and both confirmed the good state of bilateral relations and highlighted the ties of friendship that unite both peoples.

Díaz-Canel expressed the desire to deepen political dialogue at the highest level and conveyed the interest in expanding economic and commercial ties.

Later, Wickremesinghe himself told the media that areas of future cooperation were identified, including public health, agriculture and sports. (Source: PL)
