Korea hopes to increase presence in Cuba after establishment of diplomatic relations

Havana, February 19 (RHC) The Presidential Office of the Republic of Korea issued a press release on the expected effects of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba, on February 14.

The text states that Seoul will try to support Korean companies that want to enter the Caribbean island in spheres such as electronics, household items and machinery, since it suffers from a lack of essential products due to the embargo (blockade) of the United States.

The document adds that Cuba is expected to become an emerging market if Washington lifts the imposed restrictions, and highlights the great potential of the Antillean nation to cooperate in the mineral supply chain, as it is an important deposit of nickel and cobalt, essential for the production of secondary batteries.

The press release also left open the possibility of cooperating in research and development in clinical medicine with professionals from Cuba, a country recognized for its top-level medical and bio-industrial competitiveness.

Likewise, Korea seeks to expand cooperation in sports, since Cuba is considered a sports power, especially in disciplines such as baseball and volleyball. (Source: Cubadebate)
