Day of the Martyrs of the Cuban Revolution
Havana, July 30 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel remembered today, on the Day of the Martyrs of the Cuban Revolution, all those who gave their lives in the struggle to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959).
On the social network X, the head of state recalled the assassination of revolutionaries Frank País and Raúl Pujol on this date in 1957, for which July 30 was declared a day of commemoration.
We remember those who gave their noble lives inspired by the dream of an emancipated Cuba, the president wrote.
In his messages, Díaz-Canel emphasized that in young people like Frank País and Raúl Pujol, the sons of this nation have role models of virtue, and the pride of knowing they come from Cubans like themselves.
Frank País García, chief of action and sabotage for the 26th of July Movement, and the revolutionary Raúl Pujol Arencibia, were machine-gunned by the repressive forces of the Batista dictatorship on July 30, 1957, in the place known as the Alley of the Wall, in Santiago de Cuba.
Upon learning of the incident, Fidel Castro declared: "How barbaric! They cowardly hunted him down in the street, taking advantage of the advantages they enjoyed to pursue an underground fighter. What monsters! They have no idea of the intelligence, the character, the integrity they have murdered."
