Havana, October 3 (RHC) Cuban President Raúl Castro held official talks Saturday with his visiting counterpart from the Republic of Nauru, Baron Diva-vesi Waqa, who arrived in Havana Friday for an official visit.

Prior to the meeting, the distinguished visitor paid homage to Cuban National Hero José Martí at the Revolution Square.

On Friday, the president of Nauru visited that Havana-based Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), where he was appraised of Cuba's advances in the field.

Cuba and the Republic of Nauru established diplomatic relations on May 7th, 2002. The Pacific island country and Cuba have common concerns regarding climate change and its impact particularly on developing countries and on small island states.

Nauru has long supported Cuba's cause against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed and maintained by the United States for over half a century.
