Workshop on Disaster Risk Management in the Caribbean Underway in Havana

Havana, October 27 (RHC-PL) -- Representatives from 15 Caribbean countries are participating in the "Workshop on Focus and Tools for Disaster Risk Management: The Cuban Experience" -- taking place in Havana.

The event is intended to integrate knowledge and practical experience to strengthen the capacity of Caribbean nations in reducing loss of life, damage to properties and the environment, as the result of severe weather phenomena, earthquakes, epidemics and other events.

According to the program, experts from different national institutions will speak on the main natural hazards in the region, climate change and variability, early warning systems and local particularities.

They will also debate topics related to local development and risk management to reduce disasters, health and technological risks, environmental education and citizen participation in risk management, among others.

The meeting will run until Friday, October 30th, at the Palco Hotel in Havana, hosted by the Environment Agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
