In the Middle Ages there was a prayer intended to ward off evils that in one of its phrases said “vade retro satana” and that means go back, or go backwards, Satan and that with some liberties could be applied to the way of doing politics of the controversial president of the United States, Donald Trump.

As is known, the head of the White House uses explosive terms when he announces his plans, presenting them as inflexible and willing to take them to the last consequences, but when they do not start to go as he wishes, he backs down under any pretext.

This even earned him the nickname “Taco”, an acronym that in Spanish means Trump always chickens out, coined by Financial Times columnist Robert Armstrong, and which of course the president was not amused.

The fact is that this happened with the issue of tariffs imposed on almost everyone and it seems to be starting to happen in the delicate matter of the massive raids against immigrants, even those who have a legal status and a stable job and pay taxes in that country.

The protests initiated in the city of Los Angeles and multiplied in many cities, exceeded the forecasts of Trump and his officials.

It is not surprising, then, that under the pretext of protecting entrepreneurs in agriculture, construction and tourism, the tycoon said the day before that he “wants to do something” for migrants working in these sectors to avoid their deportation.

What he did not say, which is always the most interesting thing, is that these are undocumented workers, who in the United States do the hardest work in various fields, but in the face of the brutality of the raids, they chose to hide and not go to work.

It is irregular labor, they receive wages below what is established by law, do not enjoy social benefits and generate extra profits for their employers, who have already begun to worry about the situation.

In addition, the government is being criticized for the use of the National Guard and army troops, both in the capture of immigrants and in the control of demonstrations, which has caused indignation in part of U.S. society.

In the mid-term, let us remember, there are legislative elections and if the atmosphere gets too muddied, the Republicans will lose control in the Capitol, something they are not willing to risk.

Therefore, it is possible that we may see the Taco effect again or, in other words, the vade retro, Trump.
