Havana, May 27(RHC)--Young Cuban talented musician Gastón Joya gave a virtual concert Wednesday, streamed on the digital platforms of the Cuban Music Institute, the Cuban Ministry of Culture and a network of YouTube and Facebook pages with the hashtags #MúsicosPorCuba, #EstamosContigo, #institutocubanodelamúsica.

The concert was also broadcast on Canal Clave of Cuban television.

A bass player, Gaston Joya is considered one of Cuba’s bright musical stars. The celebrated bass player has been sideman for pianist Chucho Valdés.

Gastón also performed along with Cuban drums legend Enrique Plá in the Ernán López-Nussa’s trio for Ernán’s acclaimed album “Sacrilegios”.

A versatile and rounded musician, he performed with the Latin American Symphonic Orchestra under the conduction of the legendary Claudio Abbado.

In his first album, entitled ‘Gastón Joya’ and released in 2014, he used a chamber music format to perform traditional Cuban music and jazz tunes from a classical perspective. With this album he was award that year’s Cubadisco Award for Best First Work.

A National Culture Distinction laureate, Gastón Joya won again the coveted Cubadisco Award for his album ‘Fusión de almas’, in which he plays alongside also virtuoso pianist Rolando Luna.

Released under Colibrí label, ‘Fusión de almas’ also won the Cubadisco Awards for Best Album Notes about music genres and styles, written by Cuban poet Miguel Barnet.
