Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- Cuba celebrates on Friday the 50th anniversary of the Nueva Trova Movement, with a concert in this capital with the participation of representatives of several generations of the musical genre in the Caribbean island.

Cuban singer-songwriter Israel Rojas, director of the group Buena Fe, said at a recent press conference that the concert, titled "Te doy una canción," will close this difficult year for the country with songs of hope.

The evening will begin at 8:30 p.m. local time at the intersection of Avenida de los Presidentes and Third Street, in front of the Casa de las Americas headquarters, in the vicinity of Havana's Malecon.

The musician and artistic director of the show, Jorge Gómez, pointed out that the musical tribute will be accompanied by images on a large screen showing the history of the Movement in all its periods.

He explained that touching memories of the Nueva Trova's development were compiled. It never occurred to anyone at that time to have a video clip, to have one of their songs in a hit parade, to have a concert that filled Luna Park, he said.

The also leader of the group Moncada warned that it will be a great audiovisual and the public that will attend free of charge to that open space will be participating and will meet again in everything that will happen on the screen.

In addition to the Buena Fe group, which will close the night, there will be performances by Frank Fernández, Gerardo Alfonso, Augusto Blanca, the group Nuestra América, Marta Campos, Eduardo Sosa, Diego Gutiérrez, Tony Ávila, Adrián Berazaín, Ray Fernández, Mauricio Figueiral, Roly Berrío, among others.

According to Gómez, Buena fe is one of the most tremendous examples of the development of the Nueva Trova, chronicler of the national reality and that has contributed with its new sonorities a fresh air to the pentagram of the genre.

He stressed that in spite of the attacks of the Cuban-American right wing against them from the social networks, the group demonstrated that it is possible to win the street, the young Cubans, and they are a breath of hope that the trova can triumph again in that battle.

Rojas pointed out that for him a concert like this is an act of reaffirmation, of reencounter with the public of his band.

He called to make a popular concert, fun, to have a good time. The concert that the city, the Casa and our people deserve, he said.

Gómez clarified that in order not to make the concert infinite, a representative selection was made among the many troubadours that the Caribbean island has contributed during all these years to this different and committed way of making music and song.

The Nueva Trova is an attitude before the song, thinking that this song is an attitude before a society, said the critic and cultural promoter, who recalled its emergence in the 60's of the last century, when the Cuban revolution broke out and caused a different ethical movement in all spheres of art.

He pointed out that holding this jolgorio next to Casa de las Americas is not only symbolic and fair, but also very emotional and important because that is the House of the troubadours, which from the beginning joined the movement, promoting critical thinking and knowledge of the history of Cuba and Latin America.

The president of the Cuban Institute of Music, Indira Fajardo, pointed out that the concert is the continuity of an important number of activities throughout the island to celebrate the five decades of the Nueva Trova, actions that will continue next year.
