Havana Mambo Festival 2023

Havana, December 13 (RHC)-- Dedicated to the great Cuban cultural figure and musician Damaso Perez Prado, on the 107th anniversary of his birth, the Havana Mambo Festival will occupy the lives of many Cubans today until December 16.

The third edition of the event, founded and directed by Arnaldo Rodriguez, leader of the musical group Arnaldo y su Talisman, began the day before with the Mambo Route, which included the Areito Studios of the Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (Egrem) in its route.

In this space, the book Pérez Prado ¡Qué rico el mambo! by Sergio Santana Archbold was presented, a journey through the life of the famous composer known as the King of Mambo.

Another important stop was at Radio Progreso, where managers and employees shared anecdotes about the genre and this remarkable figure, and also discussed the presence of mambo in the programming of the Emisora de la Familia Cubana, as it is popularly known.

The Mambo Route ended at Egrem's headquarters, a fitting venue for the presentation of the Habana Mambo Orquesta phonogram, which includes eight well-known songs of the genre, conducted by Rodríguez.

I am an interpreter of my own songs, and this format allows me, as a musician and arranger, to move towards other musical genres," says the artist.

Singers Haila María Mompié, Mayito Rivera, Yulaysi Miranda, Moisés Valle "Yumurí", Alexander Abreu and the Orquesta Aragón are among the guests on the album.

The Habana Mambo Festival includes artistic presentations and concerts associated with the 44th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which during these days shows the most outstanding of our musical and cinematographic heritage.

On the other hand, the Dale Mambo International Colloquium, which will be held this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Casa de la Música in Miramar, Playa, will offer master classes, lectures and workshops on the genre.

On this occasion, musicians and specialists from Mexico, the United States, Austria and Panama will participate online (source: PL).
