5 Cubans advance forward as Juan Miguel Echevarria impresses in IAAF World Championship

Havana, September 28 (RHC) – Long Jump athlete Juan Miguel Echevarria led the Cubans during the opening day of competitions of the Doha 2019 IAAF World Championship, in which 5 of the 6 Cuban athletes that competed advanced further in their respective disciplines.

21-year old Echevarria, World Champion in 2018, achieved a jump of 8.40 m in his first and only attempt, valid for qualifying for the Finals with the best jump among participants.

Pole Vault athlete Yarisley Silva, also qualified for the Finals after jumping 4.60 m in her fist attempt, height reached by 17 athletes.

Two Cubans advanced to the Triple Jump Finals, Jordan Diaz (16.93) and Cristian Napoles (16.84). At the top of the Qualifying Round was also Cuban Pedro Pablo Pichardo, who is competing for Portugal.

Rose Mary Almanza also qualify for the 800 m Finals with a time of 2:03.42.
