Havana, May 27 (RHC)-- The Mayabeque Hurricanes won their first victory in the history of the play-offs of the national baseball series on Thursday.

They conquered it at their Nelson Fernandez Stadium, in San Jose de las Lajas, in the opening of their quarterfinal series against the Tigres de Ciego de Avila (6x1).

Michael Gonzalez's students mixed good starting and relief pitching with timely offense, so that the victory was quite easy for them.

Yadián Martínez (9-8) worked 7.1 innings, in which he gave up one earned run and seven hits, while striking out an equal number of opponents. Marlon Vega pitched two scoreless innings to earn his 13th save of the season.

Juan C. Hernández (4-2), Yasniel González (3-2) and Rangel Ramos (3-2) were the best offensive players for the Westerners.

For the Avileño side, experienced right-hander Yander Guevara (7-5) took the loss, tolerating six clean runs in 7.1 innings pitched. Yorelvis Charles' tigers gave nine hits, with the most outstanding being Yudiel González (4-2).
