Haarlem Baseball Tournament

Havana, July 14 (PL) - After five losses in a row and 25 innings without producing runs, the Cuban baseball champion, Alazanes de Granma, disputes this Thursday against Italy the penultimate place of the Haarlem Baseball Week in Haarlem, Netherlands.

Carlos Marti's pupils suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in the qualifying round on Wednesday, falling 0-2 against the Italian team.

Pitcher Gabriele Quattrini got the victory for the Europeans by allowing only four hits in six complete innings, with a save for Mattia Aldegheri, who allowed one hit.

On the mound for Cuba was starter César García, who allowed two clean runs and gave up four hits.

"There is no need to justify anything. Facing pitchers who averaged between 90 and 95 miles, it was very difficult to hit because we are not used to that kind of pitching. We will have to continue working on it for future events," admitted Alazanes manager Carlos Martí, in statements to CMKX Radio Bayamo.
