Directors of the Basque Pelota Federation visit Cuba

Havana, August 9 (RHC)-- A delegation of the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV) is once again in Cuba to evaluate the progress of joint projects in facilities and events.

Leading the group is Julian Garcia Angulo, secretary general of the FIPV and head of the Spanish Pelota Federation (FEP), accompanied by Baldomero Peralta, treasurer of the international federation and vice president of the FEP.

Jesús Legarra, a specialist who deals with the issue of sports facilities in the FIPV, also traveled to the capital.

After being received on Sunday at José Martí International Airport, the visitors held a working meeting with Omar Venegas Echemendía, vice-president of Inder, which was joined by videoconference by the head of the FIPV, the Mexican Xavier Cazaubon.

Among the topics discussed were the support projects for Cuba, which are focused on the restoration of the Guernica Fronton in Cienfuegos; the works of the Raul Diaz Arguelles Complex in the capital; the rescue of the historic courts of Bolivia, in Ciego de Avila; and in the longer term, the mythical Palacio de los Gritos, in Havana.

A visit to the Pearl of the South is scheduled for this Tuesday to review the works in progress at the Guernica Fronton, as well as to coordinate FIPV's support to that work.

In addition, the 30-meter uncovered fronton, which was renovated on the occasion of the celebrations for July 26, National Rebellion Day, will be appreciated.

A part of the Cuban national team will be there in September to prepare for the absolute world championship to be held in France in the last quarter of the year.
