Cuba's first group to Russia for Sports Festival

Havana, August 14 (ACN) - The first group of the Cuban delegation that will participate in the International University Sports Festival in Ekaterinburg will leave today for that Russian city, venue of the event scheduled to take place from the 19th to the 31st.

As planned, seven of the indoor players and managers will travel this Monday, led by Yoel Vega, head of Cuban representation and national director of Physical Education and Sport for All of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder).

Also making the trip will be Master of Science Pedro Lázaro Puentes, technical head of the delegation and methodologist of the National University Directorate of the Ministry of Higher Education, and Master of Science Herisbel Damián Villanueva Mayor, vice-dean of Faculty 2 of the Manuel Fajardo University of Cuban Sport.

Gregorio Morales will be the technical director of the women's futsal team, made up of Melisa González, Sheila Suanmi Núñez, Yeranys Lee, Gianna Borrero, Nahomi Aguilar and Rachel Cepero.

Braysi Cabrera, Lisset Duanis, Alina Trueba, Jennifer Cartaya and Melisa González, who will be in charge of the international debut of this women's discipline, complete the list.

Before leaving for Russia, Villanueva confirmed to Agencia Cubana de Noticas that the second group will travel on the 16th, formed by four of the indoor soccer players and the Master of Science and trainer Merys Velgara.

The judo (m and f), diving (m and f) and wrestling (m and f) teams will leave on the 17th and rhythmic gymnastics, the fifth sport in which Cuba will participate, on the 25th.

As announced by the organizers of the multidisciplinary event, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, swimming, sambo, tennis and taekwondo will also compete in Ekaterinburg.
