Havana, September 2 (ACN) --The Cuban women's volleyball team will face the United States today in the semifinal of the North, Central America and Caribbean Continental Championship (Norceca) in Quebec, Canada, hosted until tomorrow at PEPS' Amphithéatre Desjardins-Université Laval.

According to the website www.norceca.net, the disciples of coach Leivis García advanced to this important phase by defeating Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-21, 25-23 and 25-22) in the quarterfinals, a result that guaranteed them a place in the final against the undefeated Americans, leaders of Group B.

After the conclusion of the match, Garcia declared "Today we are very happy with the team, despite the injuries and all the complications we have gone through since the final six in Santo Domingo".

He added "We talked with the players and did a tactical work that worked one hundred percent. The combativeness of the group continues to grow and it is coming together as a family. We are very happy, but we respect Puerto Rico, who has a good level and plays a lot. Today things worked out in our favor.

In the preliminaries of key B, the American favorites defeated the Cubans 3-0 (25-8, 25-17 and 25-14).

The U.S. team will play this Saturday in the other semifinal match against the Dominican Republic, 3-0 (25-17, 25-10 and 25-12) victors over Mexico in the quarterfinals.

The seven teams participating in the Canadian tournament do so with their main figures, as it distributes points for the Norceca ranking, a list for which Cuba has already secured its ticket to the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.

It also coincided that the United States and Canada announced that they will not participate in the Chilean multi-sport event.
