Havana, February 26 (PL) - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated the victory of his country's basketball team over the United States in the Copa America 2025 playoffs.

Through his account on the social network X, the president sent congratulations to the players and recalled that a Cuban team had not beaten the Americans in this modality since 1971.

The head of state described the victory as a historic, sensational and hopeful event.

The Cuban basketball team dominated the United States on Sunday in its 81-67 victory, during the second game between the two teams for the qualification to the America's Cup scheduled for 2025.

On this occasion, the Caribbean country's team played the game notably limited by the denial of visas to four of its players, among them Bombino, who was the most outstanding player in the duel held at the Sports City Coliseum.

Both teams now lead elimination group D with three points from the first and second leg matches, with the Bahamas in third place with two points and Puerto Rico in fourth place with one point.
