Vento meets with UNESCO executives

Havana, March 1 (JIT) - The president of INDER, Osvaldo Vento Montiller, met in the Russian city of Kazan with executives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The meeting was attended by Gabriela Ramos, UNESCO's deputy director for the sports sector, and Philipp Muller-Wirth, director of the aforementioned section.

During the exchange, the link between sport and digital practice was discussed and the presence of Cuba in the next International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials in charge of Physical Education and Sport, scheduled for July 23 and 24, 2024, prior to the opening of the Olympic Games, was confirmed.

The representatives of UNESCO requested the presence of multi-layered athletes at the session, and in turn proposed to promote a project that integrates the contributions of sport and its impact on the social sphere in small island developing states.

The space served to recognize Cuba's historic role in Unesco and the tasks assumed in UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (Cigeps).

Vento reported on the main sporting events to be held in Cuba this year, among which he highlighted the 60th National School Games, which Unesco will accompany.  Both parties reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen mutual cooperation.

The Cuban ambassador to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel Moynelo, was present at the meeting.
