Havana, July 23 (RHC) - Cyclists José Alberto Domínguez and Yadiel Hernández, from the Cuba-Rali team, stood out on Tuesday at the opening of the 2025 Tour of Panama, taking the lead in the under-23 and junior categories, respectively.
Domínguez sealed his strong performance in the final sprint by securing third place at the front of a massive peloton of 83 riders, just five seconds behind the leaders, Oscar Sevilla (Medellín EPM) and Carlos Roche (City Bikes Miami), both elite riders, who clocked 1:57.26 hours over the 94.3 kilometers covered.
In a stage where crashes and breakages were abundant, the Cubans did not escape the mishaps typical of this sport, including Hernández, who fell to the asphalt but recovered and caught up with the leaders to cross the finish line in 19th place and first in the junior category.
He was followed by Randol Izquierdo (under-23), who managed to finish in 47th place and 14th in the under-23 classification. Behind them came Yariel de León (62) and Vicente Sanabria (63), both elite.
Two other members of the national team, Ricardo Delgado (E), who races with the HYF-Colombia club, finished in 20th place, and Amed Marcos, who races with City Bikes, finished in 35th place and 11th in the under-23 category.
Thanks to the results of Domínguez, Hernández, and Izquierdo, Cuba-Rali took fourth place among the 21 competing teams.
The 147 riders will cover 97.6 kilometers on Wednesday for the second stage.
