Paris, March 9 (RHC)-- French President Emmanuel Macron has blasted U.S. President Donald Trump for his controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the U.S. Embassy there.

President Emmanuel Macron told reporters in Paris: “When he announced unilaterally the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, I think it didn’t help with resolving the conflict and the situation.  I don’t even think it helped with the situation in terms of security.”

Control of Jerusalem is one of the most contentious issues between Israelis and Palestinians. This comes as Guatemala has announced it will also move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May, two days after the U.S. moves its embassy.  Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales made the announcement after a visit by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.
