Guatemala City, January 16 (RHC)-- The caravan of thousands of migrants from Honduras, with the United States as their final destination, arrived in Guatemala on Friday night after breaking through a police barricade.

The majority of the caravan entered Guatemalan territory on Friday night at the El Florido border crossing, in the jurisdiction of Camotán, Chiquimula, reported the teleSUR correspondent in Guatemala, Santiago Botón, on his Twitter account.  He explained that the migrants managed to break through a police barrier at the El Florido customs house in Copán, Honduras.  He said that in other places, such as Agua Caliente, the situation was normal.

Previously, some small groups of Hondurans managed to enter Guatemalan territory, while members of the Catholic Church in Guatemala have provided assistance to Hondurans on the border of El Florido.

Last Wednesday, more than six thousand people, who make up the first caravan of 2021, left the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula for the United States as their final destination.  Immigration authorities in Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico have warned that they will not allow the entry of people who mobilize in caravans.
