Buenos Aires, February 14 (RHC)-- Former Argentinean President Carlos Menem died Sunday in a Buenos Aires clinic at the age of 90, according to media reports.  Menem, who was a Peronist senator, had been hospitalized several times in recent months.

Carlos Menem, who governed Argentina for a decade, passed away at the Los Arcos Sanatorium in Buenos Aires, where he was hospitalized due to a urinary infection, his ex-wife Zulema confirmed to Télam.

Argentinean President Alberto Fernández expressed his condolences to Menem's family on his Twitter account.

"It was with deep sorrow that I learned of the death of Carlos Saúl Menem.  Always elected in democracy, he was governor of La Rioja, President of the Nation and National Senator.  During the dictatorship he was persecuted and imprisoned.  I send all my love to Zulema, Zulemita and all those who mourn him today."
