Bogota, May 12 (RHC)-- The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Temblores reports that since the beginning of the demonstrations in Colombia last April 28th until Monday, May 10th, 1,956 cases of police violence have been registered.

According to Temblores, of the total cases of police violence, 313 cases are of physical violence, 1,003 citizens suffered arbitrary detentions, 418 violent interventions despite the peaceful actions of protesters.

The NGO denounces that there have been at least 40 homicides where the alleged perpetrator is an agent of the Army or the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad (ESMAD), while the cases of sexual violence went from 10 to 12 in the last three days.

In the last 14 days of massive demonstrations, Temblores reports 28 cases of Colombians who suffered eye injuries, "citizens continue to exercise their legitimate right to protest, despite the evident systematicity of violence by the State," adds the NGO.

"Our work of documentation, registration and legal attention of cases of police violence continues (...) we will continue working for the guarantee of the fundamental rights of those who demonstrate," reports Temblores.
