Bogota, May 15 (RHC)-- Users of social networks have denounced the repression of agents of the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad (ESMAD) against the demonstrations carried out in the municipality of Popayán, capital of the department of Cauca, in rejection of police sexual violence after the suicide of a 17-year-old girl.

As part of the 17th day of the National Strike against the neoliberal policies of the government of Iván Duque, dozens of people gathered to repudiate police brutality and sexual violence, demanding justice in the case of the young girl who committed suicide after reporting having been sexually assaulted by members of the ESMAD in Popayán.

In addition, human rights organizations and local media alerted about the death of one of the participants of the protest, identified as Sebastián Quintero Múnera, 22 years old, after being hit in the neck with a stun bullet.  His death was reported at the Susana López Hospital.

Several videos were posted by users to record how ESMAD agents assaulted protesters and human rights defenders present at the site. So far, the number of injured has not been specified.

"In this video it can be seen when Esmad uniformed officers with a tankette attack young demonstrators in the city of Popayán", denounced one of the users through his account on the social network Twitter.

For its part, the Justice and Peace Commission reported that arrests of participants in the demonstrations were recorded, but their relatives do not know where they were transferred to, so they fear that they may become cases of disappearances.
