Brasilia, August 21 (RHC)-- The Federal Police (PF) and the Brazilian Attorney General's Office (PGR) have carried out arrest warrants against members of the leadership of the Military Police of the Federal District (PM-DF) accused of allowing the coup attempts against the three branches of the Republic on January 8.

Among those arrested is Colonel Klepter Rosa Gonçalves, current commander-in-chief of the Military Police in Mexico City.  In total, there are seven arrest warrants, authorized by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes: two of commanders and five of other officers.

According to the complaint made by the Strategic Group for Combating Anti-Democratic Acts of the PGR, the agents did not act to prevent acts of vandalism due to ideological alignment with the followers of the former president, Jair Bolsonaro.

These actions take place in parallel with the Supreme Court trial of the 70 accused of participating in the coup attacks on the premises of the National Congress, the STF and the Planalto Palace, seat of the Executive Power, in Brasília.

These accusations are being analyzed and, if accepted, the defendants will be criminally prosecuted, as well as the collection of evidence and testimony of witnesses for the defense and the Prosecutor's Office.
