UN Costa Rica assists vulnerable migrants at southern border

San José, Sep 1 (RHC) The UN office in Costa Rica delivered 1,150 hygiene kits and other supplies to migrants in vulnerable situations on the southern border, the institution reported Friday on its social networks.

We continue to support migrants in vulnerable situations on the southern border of #CostaRica! We delivered 1150 hygiene kits, 20 units of milk formula, 200 serums and 240 shoes to meet the urgent needs of those who need it most, wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

During the previous day, he delivered more than 2,100 hydration units to the medical offices that attend to migrants at the Temporary Attention Centers for Migrants in Paso Canoas, in the southern border town, where these people congregate.

Costa Rica has become the main transit route for those crossing the dangerous Darien jungle, whose destination is the United States. According to official figures, some 3,000 migrants arrive daily at Panama's southern border with this Central American nation.

In fact, in view of the situation, foreign ministers and security authorities of Panama and Costa Rica are meeting this day in the city of David, capital of the province of Chiriqui, on the common border to articulate strategies in favor of security, the administration of migratory and regulatory flows, among other issues of interest.

Previously, the Costa Rican Foreign Minister, Arnoldo André, reflected that the migratory problem is impossible to stop but it is possible to manage it better between countries. It is an issue whose cause is not Costa Rican, but international, and requires an international solution. (Source:PL)
