United Nations, September 23 (RHC)-- Haiti's Prime Minister called on Friday for friendly countries to do something urgent to help the Haitian people, in a context marked by violence and structural crisis.

The Haitian representative stated that "the issue of security remains the main priority of my government, that the circulation of firearms, kidnappings for ransom and massacres are the main concerns of my administration."

"We are not here to justify what has happened but to ask our friends to understand that something must be done to help us restore security and stability," he said.

Henry pointed to criminal gangs that control schools and hospitals, and added that "a humanitarian crisis has intensified with a considerable number of displaced persons".  Abuses, systematic gang rapes endanger the security of the country and the region, as well as sexual violence, organ trafficking, human trafficking, extrajudicial killings and blockades of major roads.

"I ask today, once again, from this rostrum, that we help Haitians to stay at home. There are thousands of them who are looking elsewhere for the welfare and tranquility that their homeland no longer offers them," he said.

It is impossible to invent a rhetoric about Haiti because the reality is there and challenges us all, Ariel Henry inferred, while he added that freedom is only complete when each citizen can live in dignity.  The world economy is in a situation of stagnation, inflation is present in many economies, while "climate change represents a challenge for island countries," he said.

On the recent conflict with the Government of the Dominican Republic, he conveyed a message from the Haitian people: "the Massacre River, too great a scene of historical and current frictions between the Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic invites us to do our best not to awaken old demons, resurrect old wounds or cause new ones".
